Original, digitally rendered from scratch inspiration of the Major Arcana Tarot Card The Moon.

The card describes the journey through the darkest recesses of mind and soul - to go through the nightmares to understand the yearnings behind them. The Moon is the depths absolute.

In the foreground, we see a pair of monks. Both somber, yet one is stoic at the threshold of realms that require the encounter with our best and worst qualities. The other, driven mad by them. A portcullis and path shows the way to the center, where the sole point of illumination casts it's light downward. The scenery appears sunken, as if found at the bottom of the ocean. Here, that which is unseen might be encountered and known.

Gathered in the basking light are the repressed impulses represented by manifest spirit, spiraling upward to the point of light. Oscillating about the Moon are a pair of fish, one serene and the other maligned. This represents Pisces in the zodiac. Recalled as a Fish, Pisces is two fish tied together at the tail. This represents the nature of the fish that dwells in the frozen lake of Winter. Does it ascend toward the surface where it finds the tantalizing light and risk freezing? Does it descend to the depths of the lake where the water is warm and safe?

Here, in the Moon card, is where we risk our mental, spiritual, and emotional safety to be confronted with the light of truth and fulfillment.
